From Roscigno Vecchia to Sacco

Old Roscigno

Starting from the square in Roscigno Vecchia, take Trail 518 of the Cilento Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, TAV. 3 of the Park’s Trail Map. The trail continues downhill to the Sources of the Sammaro River where we briefly enter the gorge carved by the river. After a much-needed rest, we continue uphill to SP342, which we follow for a short distance and then begin the ascent to the ruins of Old Sacco. We first come to the ruins of St. Nicholas Church and then to those of Sacco Castle, both dating back to the 6th century. D.C., from here we start to descend to the historic center of Sacco where the hike will end.

Meeting at 8:30 a.m. in the square of Roscigno Vecchia, we will walk to the Sorgenti del Sammaro springs, then go up to the village of Sacco where there will be a stop for a picnic lunch, continue to the ruins of Sacco Vecchia.

Equip yourself with hiking shoes and clothing. Need to bring sunscreen and hat and rain cape if necessary. Reservation required three days in advance, provide 1,lt water.
