On paper today’s miles are not many, but the route is scenic and above all full of sites of interest, so take it easy. Leaving the village of Cicerale, we will head toward Trentinara, set on a rocky ridge overlooking the Sele Valley below. Precisely because of its location (606 m above sea level), Trentinara is known as the “terrace of Cilento.” From the famous little panoramic square at the top of the town, the view can sweep from the Amalfi Coast to Punta Campanella and Capri. If by your own choice you should decide to stay a night in the village, visit its historic center and the monumental portals dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, but at dusk return to the small square: you will be able to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets that the Via Silente will be able to offer you. Passing through here in the second week of August will also give you the chance to participate in the characteristic “Bread Festival” : smells, tastes and sounds will mingle among the village alleys; the excellent local wine will do the rest, and you will probably decide that it is worth staying a few more days. From Trentinara to Magliano Vetere you will ride on a slightly undulating route, but without abrupt changes in gradient. Traveling along SP13b you will see the village of Magliano Nuovo on your left. Continuing on you will stop in Stio, home to the Trotta Museum, the workshop of Cilento’s master lute makers, the photography museum, and one of the most beautiful historic centers on the Via Silente. Leaving the town of Stio, you return to the countryside of Magliano Nuovo, where a descent on a dirt road will lead you to the banks of the Calore River; from here, on a road lined with oak trees, you will reach the beautiful 14th-century bridge, typical for its humpback shape. Passing over the bridge, the route turns away from the river and climbs up to a convenient secondary road, which leads to Remolino, at the foot of the ridge of the village of Felitto. From here you can go trekking along the gorges of the Calore River, bathe in its clear waters and then take refuge in a typical trattoria to taste Fusilli Felittesi, a very tasty specialty of these places.
