1 STAGE: Teggiano – Laurino
2 STAGE: Laurino – Cuccaro Vetere
3 STAGE: Cuccaro Vetere – Sanza
4 STAGE: Sanza – Teggiano
Teggiano, the starting point of the trail can be reached by car from the north and south by following the E45 and exiting at Sala Consilina. After the exit just follow the SS 19 and the signs for Teggiano.
Leaving the beautiful medieval town of Teggiano, we pedal on the flat to the slopes of Corticato. From here begins a climb of about 10 km on pleasant switchbacks until reaching the top of the saddle, nestled between the wooded Motola mountain on the left (1700 mt) and the jagged profile of Cocuzzo delle Puglie on the right (1428 mt). Descending from the Sella you will encounter Sacco. From here we follow toward Piaggine, but before reaching it we recommend a visit to Roscigno Vecchia, a village abandoned about 100 years ago and an example of what were once inland Cilento villages. There is only one inhabitant in Roscigno.
The next stop is Laurino, located 351 meters above sea level on a wide ridge abutting the Calore River. The highest point is occupied by the remains of the castle.
Outside the town is the beautiful convent of St. Anthony of Padua, located at the foot of the ridge. Built in the 16th century on the ruins of the Nosocomio di S. Antonio Abate, it is now also an accommodation facility. The experience of staying overnight in what used to be the monks’ cells is a favorite among travelers.
From Laurino we continue in the direction of Stio and here, using one of the cuts of the classic Via Silente, we reach Moio della Civitella. From Moio we head to Vallo della Lucania, a Cilentan citadel where you can find a little bit of everything, and from here we continue to Massascusa and then head to Cuccaro Vetere, a stop recommended by the association.
From Cuccaro to Sanza one pedals on the pleasant and shady provincial road 18, which is popular with local cyclists. Sanza is generally the town where those who travel the classic Via Silente stop for two days, devoting a full day to climbing the Cervati or visiting the splendid Vallivona sinkhole.
From Sanza you reach Teggiano again by a very pleasant ride that also allows a stop at the spectacular Certosa di Padula
In Laurino, the association recommends an overnight stay in the ancient Convent of St. Anthony (3346945350)
Regarding Cuccaro Vetere, the association recommends : “I Puddicchi” in the historic center, the “B&B Sorelle De Luca,” on the town square, “il borghetto antico” also in the historic center
For facilities in the Sanza, and Teggiano stops, the association recommends viewing the PDF at www.laviasilente.it or using the Android APP downloadable from the Play Store.
